The Pacific
Costa Rica, Alaska, Hawaii
Alaska is the land of superlatives with wild rivers, vast national parks, glaciers, and large animal wildlife. Denali, Lake Clark, and Kenai Fjords National Parks are my favorites. 95% of Alaska's glaciers are shrinking and coastal villages are being relocated inland because of sea levels rising. The largest mountain in North America is known as Denali, from Athabascan language meaning the Great One or the Tall One. It is the tallest mountain in the world when measured from base to summit and located in the National Park of the same name. A Fairbanks reporter began calling it Mt. McKinley in 1896 during that year's presidential campaign. McKinley favored a gold-backed dollar, which presumably would boost mining in Alaska. McKinley never visited Alaska. The correct name is Denali. The McKinley River flows through Denali NP.
Costa Rica is small but incredibly diverse country with dense rain forests and Pacific sunsets. Famous for micro-climates, the biodiversity of Costa Rica offers a range of wildlife packed into small areas.
The gods of fire and water compete in Hawai'i to dominate the island chain. In these remote islands, water destroys but volcanoes build.
